Recyclops Bringing New Life to Local Recycling

A new company is reviving curbside recycling in the Vernal area. Recyclops owner Ryan Smith made a presentation on his curbside recycling company during Tuesday’s Vernal Chamber luncheon. Recyclops got started 5 years ago in the Provo Orem area and began looking into expanding to the Vernal area last fall. “We did some research and learned that Vernal was the first city in the state to have a residential recycling program,” shared Smith. In 1996 RDT experimented with residential recycling for a period of time. They had also learned about the efforts of Green Recycling which had closed their operation in Vernal last summer and Recyclops decided to try and pick up where Green Recycling left off. Recyclops has now been operating in Vernal City for a little over a month and are finding success using a simple program that uses trucks and trailers rather than garbage trucks and picks up bags rather than garbage style bins. They donate some of their materials to the Can Do Crew recycling operation. “We want to make sure we are helping them, not hurting them as we try to expand,” said Smith. Recyclops accepts paper, cardboard, metal, and all types of plastic and styrofoam. Those interested in learning more about their service can visit
