Public’s Help Needed on Steinaker Fish Salvage

The Division of Wildlife Resources needs your help! Repair and maintenance work is scheduled to take place on the Steinaker Reservoir dam next fall and between now and then officials are hoping to salvage as many fish from the lake as possible. “The reservoir will soon be drained for dam repairs and we need anglers, from boats and the shore, to catch bluegill for us,” shares the DWR. “Division aquatics staff will collect the fish you catch and prepare them for transplant.” The event is taking place June 7th, 8th, and 10th. Anglers must have a valid fishing license and all state boating regulations apply. Construction on Steinaker dam will begin this fall and will continue, weather permitting, into the winter and resume again Spring of 2019. There will be no water in Steinaker Reservoir for the summer of 2019 and it will be re-filled beginning of Fall 2019 after the dam modifications have been completed.
