The awarding of additional inmate contracts at the Uintah County Jail is bringing new revenue to Uintah County. Within the next 30 days, shares Sheriff Vance Norton, the number of state prisoners is expected to reach the contracted amount of 125. There were 85 state prisoners when Norton took office as Sheriff meaning there has been growth in the Sheriff’s staff as well as revenue since that time. There have been 3 deputies hired in 2017 and 3 more that will start in early 2018, shares Norton. So just how much does the additional contracts bring to the County? Clerk/Auditor Mike Wilkins breaks it down as revenues from state inmates increasing from $1.6 to $2.3 million dollars and additional revenues from Salt Lake County inmates from zero to $455,000 dollars annually.
