Citizens throughout the Basin are being urged to take a special interest in the beautification of local cemeteries as Memorial Day approaches. Cemetery beautification has been a topic at multiple meetings in recent weeks as public officials strive to take a proactive approach in Uintah County. “I visited all 11 cemeteries and was disappointed in how they look,” shares Uintah County Commissioner Duane Shepherd. The groundskeeping staff is limited and doing their best with the time and resources available to them but more needs done. First, the county is inviting community members to consider serving on the board for the cemetery in their neighborhood. The county has also approved the hiring of two temporary full-time employees for the summer time to help with the cemetery beautification and maintenance. “Even with that there is still too much to accomplish,” explains Shepherd, “so we are asking the public to come and help. We want to get these cemeteries up to snuff and then make a plan to maintain them.” The public is urged to join the cleanup effort during cemetery beautification week from Monday, May 22nd through Saturday, May 27th.
