A collaborative effort is ready for direct public involvement with the scheduling of open house events. Creating a master plan for the trails within Uintah County has been a focus of county and city officials as well as trail enthusiasts in the area for several years and things are finally coming together. In February, funding was secured for planning trails and alternative transportation infrastructure in Uintah County. The Uintah Transportation Special Service District applied for the funds through the Utah Department of Transportation Small Urban and Non-Urban Transportation Alternatives Program and was awarded a $350,000 dollar grant. Approximately $100,000 dollars will be used on development of a small urban plan encompassing Naples City and Vernal City, and the remaining $250,000 dollars will be used on trail development though the rest of Uintah County. Citizens within Uintah County that are interested in local trails are urged to attend an upcoming public input meeting on the Uintah County Trails Master Plan. Meetings will be held from 6 to 8pm at the Lapoint Fire Station on May 16th, at the Ballard Town Hall on May 17th, and the USU-Vernal Campus on May 18th.
