Representative Rob Bishop has introduced a new bill that is garnering plenty of attention. H.R. 2620, the Lawful Purpose and Self Defense Act, would eliminate ambiguity in the current code that could lead to restriction of firearms and ammunition for self-defense. “The Founding Fathers were clear when they drafted the Bill of Rights,” shares Rep. Bishop. “The 2nd Amendment is about security and self-defense. Vagaries in today’s legal code pose a real threat to the right to keep and bear arms. The Obama Administration exploited this ambiguity to forward its agenda of restriction. It’s time to ensure no future Administration tramples on these freedoms guaranteed by our Constitution.” Bishop’s Act would eliminate the possibility of reclassifying popular rifle ammunition and protect shotguns, shotgun shells, and large caliber rifles from new classification, among other things. Executive Director of the NRA Chris Cox issued a public statement thanking Chairman Bishop for introducing H.R. 2620. “It send a clear message,” shared Cox, “that Congress will no longer allow federal bureaucrats to infringe on our Second Amendment right to self protection.”
