A meeting last week inviting the public to discuss issues with county officials about cemeteries in Uintah County is being considered a move in the right direction. “We had a very successful and productive meeting

about the cemeteries and its possible restructure,” shares Uintah County Commissioner Duane Shepherd. “While there are some things that need to be fixed, I believe that with the correct oversight any issues we are currently faced with can be resolved.” Cemetery maintenance became a topic last spring when the county received complaints that the grounds were not well maintained. The Commissioners took time to visit each cemetery and held cemetery cleanup days. The issues continue to receive focus, prompting the continued discussion. Those that would still like to make a comment on the topic are asked to email

with the subject line: Public Cemetery Complaint. Those interested in serving on a cemetery board can submit a Request for Consideration to the Uintah County Commission at any time.
