Smoke may be visible on areas of the Ashley National Forest as pile burning is planned for several areas. “The Duchesne-Roosevelt Ranger District of the Ashley National Forest will be implementing prescribed fire projects September 22nd through December 31st, 2026, as conditions allow,” shares the announcement from Ashley National Forest. “Prescribed fire and mechanical fuels treatments are forest management tools used to reduce hazardous fuels accumulation, improve wildlife habitat, protect critical watersheds, and restore fire-adapted ecosystems.” Pile Burning is planned for the following areas: Yellowpine Campground/Rock Creek Drainage, Moon Lake Drainage, and Argyle Canyon Road/Summit of Highway 191. There are no road or forest access closures planned for these project areas and visitors are asked to remain alert in all areas where firefighters are working. Remember that smoke may be visible in the project areas but there is no need to report it as firefighting resources will remain on the scene throughout project implementation.
