‘Potential Threat’ On USU Campus A False Alarm

An Aggie Alert indicating a potential threat on the USU Uintah Basin campus was found to be a false alarm on Monday morning. Uintah School District shared that the alert was sent out at about 9am on Monday, November 2nd, stating that there was “a potential threat on/near” the school’s Vernal campus and that the campus had gone into SECURE status with its exterior doors locked. “Based on the Aggie Alert, Uintah High School and Ashley Valley Education Center were placed in SECURE status as a precaution,” shares the announcement. “Exterior doors were locked, and no one was allowed in or out of the buildings. A short time after the initial alert, USU Uintah Basin leadership notified district leadership that the Aggie Alert had been sent in error. There was never a threat or potential threat to USU’s Vernal campus. The district moved Uintah High and AVEC out of SECURE status at about 9:10am and normal operations resumed.”
