An early morning flight lesson ended in injury on Monday at the Vernal Regional Airport. According to the Uintah County Sheriff’s Office, an 18-year-old female and her 27-year-old instructor were seriously injured when the Cessna 162 Skycatcher they were in stalled during takeoff. “The instructor was demonstrating a take off technique when the plane stalled approximately 100 feet in the air,” shares the Sheriff’s Office. “The instructor attempted to get power back, but was unsuccessful as the plane crashed onto the shoulder of the runway and then skidded across it where it came to rest in a grassy area.” The student and instructor were both transported to Ashley Regional Medical Center and from there were airlifted to a Salt Lake City hospital for further treatment. The accident is under investigation by the National Transportation Safety Board.
