Plane Crash Near Rifle Kills Family of Four

A family of four was killed last Friday in Garfield County after their private plane crashed north of Rifle. According to the Garfield County Sheriff’s Office, the family was traveling from their hometown of Fort Collins, Colorado, to Moab when the accident occurred
Friday night
. The plane had last been reported approximately 9 miles north of Glenwood Springs near Baxter Peak. Civil Air Patrol and Classic Air were asked to assist with an aerial search. The air search was delayed on Friday due to low hanging clouds but crews located the crash by
11:37am Saturday morning
. Classic Air was able to land in the area and established that there were no survivors. The family was identified as 47-year-old Jeff Makepeace, 45-year-old Jennifer Makepeace, and their two children 10-year-old Addison and 10-year-old Benjamin. The accident is under investigation by the National Transportation Safety Board.
