A Phase Two of the Ashley Gorge Via Ferrata is under consideration. A news release from Uintah County shared that on Wednesday, Dave Shallenberger with Access Utah presented new Ashley Gorge Via Ferrata route concepts at the Uintah County Commission work session. A Phase Two could include two additional routes, and a route extension, that would direct recreationists away from sensitive water sources and create the option for a possible second day of climbing, all without increasing the Ashley Gorge Via Ferrata’s overall capacity. “Phase One  has exceeded our expectations in terms of safety, interest, and community response,” said Commissioner John Laursen. “By reviewing the presentation and option for Phase Two, we are taking a balanced approach that reflects our responsibility to protect Ashley Springs while continuing to support local outdoor recreation and tourism.” Funding for a Phase Two would come through Access Utah as well as other grant funding. “Engineers specializing in low-impact climbing-route installation would evaluate the safest, least invasive locations for anchors, rebar steps, and safety cables,” shares Uintah County. “The public is encouraged to view Access Utah’s presentation on Uintah County’s website.” For the complete news release, visit www.uintah.gov
