Personnel and equipment working the Dollar Ridge Fire provided help at the announcement of a new fire start just miles away. The Santaquin Fire is approximately 6 miles north of the Strawberry Pinnacles turn off on Highway 40 in the Fruitland area of Duchesne County. According to the Duchesne County Sheriff’s Office, fires are usually named for geographical locations and local landmarks and this one is located in Santaquin Draw east of Grey Wolf Mountain. The Santaquin Fire grew from 30 acres in the afternoon to 188 acres by Tuesday night. The cause is unknown. The Dollar Ridge Fire Information Center says it is expected that the Santaquin Fire will be fully contained by 2pm on Wednesday. The Dollar Ridge Fire update for Tuesday reported that containment remains at 85 percent and firefighters continue patrolling and mopping up along containment lines. Also on Tuesday, Duchesne County lifted the mandatory evacuations that were part of the Dollar Ridge Fire but parts of the Ashley National Forest and the Uinta Wasatch Cache National Forest remain under temporary closures.
