Partial Dismissal of Stonegate Lawsuit; Parties Working Together

Parties involved in a lawsuit surrounding the Stonegate Subdivision in Roosevelt are working together towards a long-term solution. TriCounty Health Department, Duchesne County, Roosevelt City, and the residents from Stonegate who filed the suit are collaborating as a gravity-fed sewer system is in the works for the subdivision. The lawsuit was filed by residents of Stonegate Subdivision who suffered serious septic tank failure as the neighborhood dealt with rising water tables. The lawsuit was partially dismissed without prejudice earlier this year in U.S. District Court and efforts continue forward to have the subdivision hooked up to the Roosevelt City sewer system. Roosevelt City Council worked closely with residents for annexation of the subdivision into the City and applications for funding the sewer project have been submitted to the Utah Water Quality Board and the Community Impact Board. “Everyone wants a solution,” shares TriCounty Health Director Jordan Mathis. “I think this order is a sign that all parties believe this issue can be resolved quicker and more effectively without litigation.”
