Daggett County Sheriff’s Office Assists in Rescue of Stranded Semi Driver

The Daggett County Sheriff’s Office assisted the Sweetwater County Sheriff’s Office on Wednesday night in the rescue of the driver of a tractor-trailer truck. “The driver failed to obey a road closed sign on US-191 and spent more than 24 hours stuck in a large snowdrift about 10 miles past the Utah-Wyoming state line,” shares the Daggett County Sheriff’s Office. “Temperatures were in the single digits when we reached the driver tonight, with wind chill making it even colder.

Roosevelt Police Chief on Recent Scammers Claiming to Raise Funds for RPD

The Uintah Basin community finds ways to support local law enforcement but Roosevelt Police Department is urging locals to be sure they are supporting a legitimate cause before donating. Case in point: scammers have most recently been contacting locals claiming to be raising money for the Roosevelt Police Department and Roosevelt PD wants the community to know they are not soliciting funds through any outside sources. Police Chief Rick Harrison says that some were fooled and donated.

Launch Your Sports Career This Weekend at the Dinosaurland Cornhole Classic

Uintah County Travel and Tourism is always on the lookout for the next big fun event to put the Vernal area on the map and they just may have found it with their Dinosaurland Cornhole Classic tournament this weekend. Uintah County Travel and Tourism Director Lesha Coltharp says the idea for the event came from Uintah County Commissioner Brad Horrocks as something fun to do inside during the long winter months in Vernal. "This really is an up and coming sport," Coltharp says with a laugh.

SNOTEL Report Shows Current Snow Water Above Average and Looking Good

A new SNOTEL report for Utah was released on Wednesday. Current snow water equivalent for the Duchesne River region is 117 percent the average for this time of year and the snow water equivalent for the Northeastern Uintahs region is 144 percent the average for this time of year. The Utah Department of Natural Resources shares that the SNOTEL report shows the current snow water equivalent is still well above normal with another storm fast approaching.

USU Uintah Basin Celebrating Impactful Women of the Uintah Basin: Week 4

USU Uintah Basin is doing something special to support, celebrate, and honor the women of the Uintah Basin with their Year of the Woman campaign. Karilynne Pearson was selected as the Week 4 representative and the final to be highlighted in the Arts and Culture category. Utah State University Uintah Basin shared a video highlighting her on their Facebook page. As the person who nominated Karilynne, her daughter Nashelle Jackson shares that Karilynne does so much for the community on so many levels, as a performer, musician, member of her church, a friend and mother.

Attention All Dads: Father/Daughter Sweetheart Dance is Friday Night

Attention all dads: the Father/Daughter Sweetheart dance is happening this Friday. Any advertising that states February 15th is incorrect. It was originally scheduled that day but had to be moved to Friday, February 7th. This tradition, hosted by the Uintah Recreation District, allows fathers to take their princess(es) to an evening of dancing and refreshments. Event coordinator Shauna Jo Eves shares, “I started the father daughter dance a few years back because I was looking for an activity that we could reach out to our tweens.

Moffat County Commissioners Hosting Forum on Colorado Wolf Regulations

The presence of wolves in northwestern Colorado has fueled the entire region with questions, rumors and for some, strong emotions. The Moffat County Commission wants to help members of the public get educated and are hosting what they are calling “a fact based meeting about the regulations around wolves and what the rules are now that wolves are in Moffat County.” The Commission emphasized that this meeting is not about politics and is not going to be a debate between those that do or don’t like the presence of wolves. Rather it will be an opportunity to “Get The Facts From The Experts”. The meeting will be held February 10th from 5:30 to 7:30pm at the Moffat County Pavilion. Guest speakers will be members of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, USDA – Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service, and Colorado Parks and Wildlife.

TriCounty Health Addresses Concern Over Coronavirus

Coronavirus is the topic of TriCounty Health’s Give’m Health highlight this week. “As of February 3rd, 2020, 11 cases of Novel Coronavirus have been confirmed in the United States,” shares TriCounty Health. “No confirmed cases have been reported in Utah. While the reported cases in the U.S are worrisome, the risk to the general public and to Utahns is low. Investigations are ongoing and The Utah Department of Health and Tricounty Health Department will continue to provide updates as the situation evolves.”

Congressman Bishop Makes Statement Following State of the Union Address

Congressman Rob Bishop, representative for Utah’s 1st District of which includes much of the Uintah Basin, made a statement following the 2020 State of the Union Address. “We are in the midst of an incredible time in America's history,” shares Bishop. “By almost any metric, Americans today are faring better than they were before 2016. We are safer and we are stronger, and I commend President Trump and his administration for creating an environment in which Americans can succeed. In Utah, nearly 150,000 jobs have been created since 2016, business is booming, and wages are increasing.

DWR Highlights Northeastern Utah Waters for Amazing Scenery and Great Fishing

By February, winter in Utah can feel never-ending but the Division of Wildlife Resources is recommending 3 Utah waters to enjoy with amazing scenery and great fishing and two of them are located in northeastern Utah. First on the list is Flaming Gorge Reservoir. "Flaming Gorge has a lot of awesome fishing opportunities in the winter," shares DWR Sportfish Coordinator Randy Oplinger. "The open water areas are great for those who like to fish from shore and boat, and ice anglers can fish the frozen areas.

Are you looking to do something a little fun and a little crazy for Valentine’s Day? How about a blind date? 43 percent of Americans have said that they have been on a blind date. Even though blind dates can certainly be an awkward experience, the Uintah County Library is hoping that the whole Basin will get in the spirit and have a Blind Date with a Book during the month of February. This unique experience has individuals select a wrapped book. Inside the wrapped book is a piece of paper that you will fill out once you read the book. Once you bring back the book and the paper to the front desk you are entered into the Blind Date with a Book raffle.
