KNEU 1250Executing road projects takes careful planning but there’s not much you can do when Mother Nature doesn't cooperate. Last week, Taylor Mountain Road (Forest Service Road 044) was treated with Magnesium Chloride in preparation for the summer season. Magnesium Chloride bonds the road surface and reduces dust and loose gravel on the roadway.
The Utah Division of Wildlife Resources is recommending changes to waterfowl hunting, including changes specific to the Uintah Basin, and public comment is welcome. The changes were based on HB 295 that was passed during the 2021 legislative session which prohibits commercial hunting guides and outfitters from using DWR-owned waterfowl management areas without a permit.
TriCounty Health Officer Kirk Benge visited the Eagle Country KLCY studio on Tuesday with a local update on COVID-19. As of May 4th, the health district has 105 active COVID-19 cases. To date, there are 3,872 recovered cases, 290 hospitalizations and 36 COVID-19 deaths.

Ashley National Forest has announced that the Taylor Mountain Road is now open to Kaler Hollow and Iron Springs. There are still some spots with snow and roads may be soft. You can take Forest Service Road 044 up Taylor Mountain to Kaler Hollow then Forest Service Road 018 over to Iron Springs and eventually Highway 191.
What should you do if you find a baby bird on the ground? The DWR has the answer. Many birds are hatching and often leave their nests before they are able to fly. Some may also be blown out of nests during spring thunderstorms. “They usually chirp and call from the nest, waiting for their parents to bring food to them,” said Blair Stringham, Utah Division of Wildlife Resources migratory game bird program coordinator.

Uintah School District announced Friday that the district’s purchase of the BHI building and property in Naples is complete. According to the announcement, the district purchased 26,668 square feet of offices, meeting rooms and storage space; 28,875 square feet of heated indoor bus storage; additional shop space for district vehicles; and 11 acres of property for $9,794,780 dollars which came from the district’s Capital Outlay Fund.
