KNEU 1250A former church leader accused of sexual abuse against a minor has been charged in 8th District Court. On September 16th, 63-year-old James Douglas Robinson was charged with 2nd Degree Felony Forcible Sexual Abuse for an alleged incident that took place in June in Duchesne County.
Uintah School District is exploring scheduling options for the district’s secondary schools and a committee has been formed to help in the process. During the Uintah School Board’s meeting on September 8th, Superintendent Woodford presented the board with a plan.
The Lapoint-Tridell Fire Department is better prepared thanks to a generous donation from the Bureau of Land Management Green River District. The BLM has donated a Ford F450 Wildland Fire Engine to the Lapoint-Tridell Fire Department as part of the Rural Fire Readiness program.
The Vernal Innovation Hub continues to offer services to the community and a new group is off to a great start. ‘Women Business Owners of the Basin’ recently held their first meeting and all involved are calling it a success. The group is an affiliate group of Women’s Business Center of Utah and it was organized by the Innovation Hub manager.
The Division of Workforce Services has offered an employment update for the state, including numbers for the Uintah Basin. Utah’s nonfarm payroll employment for August increased about 3.8 percent with the state adding 55,700 jobs since August 2019.
The United States Senate unanimously passed Senator Mike Lee’s Reinforcing American-Made Products Act which establishes a national standard for products to be labeled “Made in USA” in interstate commerce. Currently, businesses must navigate conflicting federal and state definitions and regulatory requirements to label products as “Made in USA.”
It was a case of either very bad luck or very good luck in a Maeser neighborhood on Wednesday when a runaway vehicle came to a stop after running into a home. According to the Uintah County Sheriff’s Office, a semi tractor trailer had been backed into the driveway of a residence in Maeser on 3500 West.
A vehicle fire was estimated to have caused about $200,000 dollars in damages on Thursday afternoon in Uintah County. According to Uintah County Fire Marshal Jeremy Raymond, Vernal Fire was paged to 1288 West 500 North on a vehicle fire in a car port. When crews arrived both the vehicle and the carport were on fire.
Hotels and campgrounds will be full and restaurants busy this weekend as over 1400 mountain bikers and their families flock to Vernal for the much anticipated East Region race at Buckskin Hills. The Vernal Velociraptors pull team members from all over the Uintah Basin and includes a high school and junior high team that are all eager for this weekend.
As of Thursday, September 16th, TriCounty Health Department reported 6,633 total COVID-19 cases in the tri-county area to date, an increase of 89 new cases from the day before. According to Thursday’s data, there are currently 1,084 active cases.
A Women’s Self Defense Super Seminar is coming to Vernal and Sheriff Steve Labrum is hoping every woman and teen available on October 1st and 2nd will be there to learn how to protect themselves. Made famous as the pioneers of UFC and MMA fighting, the Gracie family is known as masters of the art of jiu jitsu and will be the teachers at this event.
It’s predicted that this will be an extra cold winter and the Rotary Club of Vernal is working hard to gather new or gently used winter apparel donations to make sure every family in the area stays warm when the cold arrives. Donations will be accepted for several more weeks leading up to the event on October 9th when families can come to the Vernal Christian Church and pick out winter coats and gear for the whole family.
