KNEU 1250TSA will be returning to the Vernal Regional Airport. TSA service was pulled from the area in 2015 when there was a lapse in air service at the airport. Vernal Regional Airport Manager Doug Brown announced Tuesday that the federalization status with TSA has been regained to provide screening for the public once Skywest takes over air service.
A slow economy apparently can’t slow Walmart down. The retail giant is opening its new fuel center and convenience store in Vernal with a Grand Opening Wednesday morning. The construction project, including a 1,440 square foot building and gas pumps, was announced last summer.
The Uintah Fire Suppression Special Service District issued a press release Tuesday stating that they do not support the decision to move the Uintah Basin Interagency Fire Center to Richfield.
Altamont community and schools came together Friday, November 10th, to honor local Veterans. The start of the program included a meeting outside at the Veteran’s Memorial on Altamont’s Main Street that involved the elementary students singing several songs and remarks from Verl Tucker. The high school students and the Veterans moved into the auditorium to continue the program.
A special holiday tradition for one family has become a favorite stop for residents in Roosevelt during the Christmas season. This is the 13th year the Roosevelt Branch Library will have an epic gingerbread display and it is all thanks to the Branch Manager Stephen Moon and his family.
A Duchesne County man has been sentenced to prison for multiple cases of theft and burglary. According to the Duchesne County Sheriff’s Office, 35-year-old Travis Kirk Cook was sentenced on November 6th to serve up to 15 years in prison for possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute and up to 5 years in prison for theft by receiving stolen property.
This year Union High School Theatre is performing the classic musical Hello, Dolly. The play opened Friday night to an excited crowd.
Planning is well underway for a cherished holiday tradition held in Duchesne County each year. Roosevelt City Police Department announced that this year’s Shop With A Cop event will take place on December 9th at 7am. Those that have a desire to have their child participate are asked to contact their respective clergy, DCFS, or other social service provider and have them make a referral.
The Duchesne County Student of the Week is Altamont High School sophomore Shalyce Gardner. Shalyce was nominated by Ms. Abigail Hart for her unbridled enthusiasm for Science.
Many in the community are wondering ‘What’s Next for Uintah County?’ following an audit report released by the Office of the State Auditor regarding the Uintah Transportation Special Service District. Without addressing every finding in the report, the Uintah County Attorney’s Office did provide a response on Monday afternoon.
In what is being celebrated as a great success, Eagle View Elementary School has exited ‘School Improvement’ status. On October 30th, Uintah Superintendent Mark Dockins was notified by the Utah State Board of Education that Eagle View has made “significant progress” and as a result has exited that status.
Some good friendly competition can be a good thing. Vernal UBTech automotive students recently tested their skills against the Roosevelt UBTech automotive students. The contests were held in over 10 different stations with local industry leaders serving as the judges and donating prizes.
