The Uintah County Commission approved the Opioid Settlement Payment Expenditure Plan that was presented during Tuesday’s Commission meeting. Deputy County Attorney Jon Stearmer presented the plan. He stated that it is required by the State of Utah in order to administer funds that have been received as part of a $26 billion dollar settlement with opioid manufacturers and distributors that contributed to the current opioid epidemic. Uintah County will be using funding in order to hire trained personnel to be housed in the Uintah County Jail specifically to serve as a clinician to opioid addiction issues. The Commission showed their full support in the use of funds with their approval. Stearmer’s final statement on the topic was that he believes this is going to provide a massive benefit to the local population , specifically in addressing the opioid crisis and addiction that is in our community.
