An intoxicated man had his keys taken from him by an off duty police officer while at the Vernal Maverick on Friday. According to the Affidavit of Probable Cause, 31-year-old Jason James Cornpeach was intoxicated when he nearly struck something while pulling into the Maverick parking lot. He went inside and was refused an alcohol sale due to his level of intoxication. He got in his vehicle and was backing out and pulling forward in a parking stall when the off duty officer was able to take the keys . A firearm was retrieved from the vehicle and contained a loaded magazine with no round in the chamber. When officers arrived, Cornpeach exited the vehicle and refused to submit to field sobriety tests. He was placed under arrest. A records check showed that he is an alcohol restricted driver. Cornpeach is charged with 3rd Degree Felony DUI with 2 or more Priors in 10 Years, and other misdemeanor charges.
