Building the next generation of hunters; that’s the goal and purpose of the YHEC, Youth Hunter Education Challenge, put on by the National Rifle Association. To the excitement of many, the NRA Youth Hunter Education Challenge for the state of Utah is being held this weekend in Vernal. YHEC provides fun events to improve the hunting, marksmanship, and safety skills of kids 18 and under. Simulated hunting situations, live fire exercises, and responsibility events are all planned using the rifle, bow, and muzzleloader shooting at life-size targets. “This is a great promotional event for Vernal,” shares DWR Outreach Manager Tonya Kieffer, “and it will be bringing lots of families and participants in to enjoy this part of our great state.” The NRA YHEC is being held Friday and Saturday, April 21st and 22nd, at the Vernal Rod and Gun Club.
