The 2017 municipal elections had better be on the minds of those interested in running for open positions because the deadline to declare candidacy is coming up. The Vernal City Municipal Election will be held to elect a Mayor and two City Council positions to serve 4 year terms. Mayor Sonja Norton’s term of office is up December 31st, as well as council member Ted Munford and council member Bert Clark. If necessary, a primary election will be held on August 15th. Each person seeking to become a candidate must file a Declaration of Candidacy Form in person with the City Recorder’s office between June 1st and June 7th. Any resident of Vernal City may nominate a candidate for office by filing a Nomination Petition with the City Recorder’s office. To run for municipal office, a candidate must be a registered voter and have lived in city limits for 12 consecutive months before the date of the election. Roosevelt City has no positions up for election during this election cycle.
