Utah’s Watershed Restoration Initiative has completed projects on over 1,290,000 acres of Utah lands with 257,000 acres in projects currently underway. Proposed for 2017, there are 10 more projects planned, one of which covers the Uintah Basin. In northeast Utah, the proposed project for watershed restoration includes improvement to ponderosa pine stand by removing pinyon juniper encroachment. The project will hand cut and pile pinyon juniper and excess ponderosa saplings to reduce risk of fire damage to Ponderosa pine stands on BLM land. The goal of the program is to restore watersheds through partnerships. More information can be found on
