The Utah Department of Workforce Services provided updated unemployment numbers on Monday and the Uintah Basin made a small shift in the right direction. Uintah County reported a move from 4 to 3.9 percent unemployment from the month before. Duchesne County reported a move from 3.4 to 3.3 percent and Daggett County remained at 3.4 percent unemployment from the month before. Nationally, unemployment ticked down from 3.8 to 3.6 percent and the state of Utah shifted from 2.1 to 2 percent unemployment. “The unemployment rate took another historical notch downward to 2 percent,” reports DWS Chief Economist Mark Knold. “All industry sectors save one have added new jobs over the past year…With unemployment rock bottom at 2 percent, excess labor is virtually non-existent, so this industry’s inability to supply the market with idled workers or to attract labor for its own needs is not a surprise.” April’s unemployment information is scheduled to be released on May 20th.
