Uintah Basin competitors represented well at the Northeast Region Sterling Scholar competition at UVU on Monday night. Five Uintah Utes earned awards, including two taking the top spots. Lauren McKee won in the Vocal Performance category. Lauren was recognized as having earned Superior ratings for Vocal Solo at State in 2024 and 2025; having assembled hundreds of humanitarian, food, and quilt kits for individuals in need; and having completed the Michael F. Peterson Leadership challenge. Daron Ross won in the World Languages category. Daron was recognized as having earned the seal of bi-literacy, co-founding the Uintah Spanish Club, serving as Captain of the Uintah tennis team, and for making a Spanish film about battling societal changes as a young adult. Runner-ups from Uintah High included Jackson Checketts in Skilled and Technical Sciences Education, Tobias Faucher in Computer Technology, and Hailey Rasmussen in Instrumental Music. Also from the Uintah Basin, Jordan Lucas from Tabiona High School was named runner-up in the General Sterling Scholar category; Lucille Turnbow from Tabiona High School was named runner-up in Speech, Theatre Arts and Debate; Ava Hartman from Altamont High School was named runner-up in Agricultural Science; and Taylor Crum from Duchesne High School was named runner-up in Dance.
