It is a skin tingling thrill when a student athlete declares their intention to play sports in college on signing day. Well, Uintah High School teacher Janalee Merrell Watkins, who is the coordinator for the school’s Teaching as a Profession (TAP) program, set up a great event in which nine Uintah High students signed letters of intent to become teachers. “Utah launched Teaching As A Profession (TAP) as a CTE Pathway four years ago,” shares the announcement. “The course introduces students to the role and positive influence of effective educators. It also prepares them for college-level work in education programs.” As part of the program, students take a state test at the end of the course to earn their Pathway certificate. The Uintah High class scored in the top 3 of all Utah schools on the state test.
