Work continues on the Starvation Bridge construction project. UDOT provided an update this week sharing that crews are making progress removing the existing concrete parapet wall, while carefully preserving the existing rebar on the north side of the bridge.
The Utah Division of Emergency Management has announced that another group of Utah firefighters has answered the call to help fight wildfires, this time in Montana. The 24 firefighters will deploy on Thursday, July 22nd.
Impaired driving is something law enforcement as a whole battles in order to protect the public but the efforts of some officers go above and beyond. The Colorado branch of MADD, Mothers Against Drunk Driving, announced this week that an officer with Rifle Police Department, Officer Kelli Litzau, has been named the ‘MADD Colorado DUI Enforcement Hero’.

A rare opportunity is coming for animal lovers. A hummingbird banding event is taking place at the Red Canyon Lodge in Daggett County. “At this location, we’re hoping to see and band rufous hummingbirds as they are migrating through Utah during their July migration from Canada and Alaska,” explains DWR Recreation Specialist Anthony Christianson.

A construction project is underway on Mountain Home Road. Skyview Excavation and Grading explains that “this work will include excavation and widening of the highway. This work may temporarily restrict access to driveways. We will return access to driveways as quickly as possible.
Harmful Algal Blooms can cause serious illness and do occur in the Uintah Basin. Currently, Matt Warner Reservoir is under advisory after elevated levels of cyanobacteria were confirmed. When enjoying the outdoors keep an eye out when recreating on or near water.
Anglers take note: The Division of Wildlife Resources just stocked the Green River with the largest rainbow trout to be stocked there to date. “The fish average 12 inches long, but some are 15 inches, which is usually the size they achieve a year or two after stocking!” shares the Division of Wildlife Resources.
An amazing group of volunteers made a huge difference during a service project on Saturday in Roosevelt that will go a long way in filling hungry bellies. The folks at Just Serve teamed up with Strata Networks for the Feeding Children project which utilized 200 volunteers in assembling meal packets of jambalaya containing lentils, rice, dried veggies and himalayan salt.
Lake Powell is drying up and Flaming Gorge is one of a few reservoirs releasing water to help the situation but what’s the reasoning behind it all? Wayne Pullan, the Bureau of Reclamation’s regional director, has explained that increasing Lake Powell’s water levels is crucial so the Glen Canyon Dam is able to continue generating power and that the decision to pull from upstream reservoirs is part of an agreement already in place.
