New Major Dinosaur Dig Site Uncovered in Moffat County

It’s more than just paleontologists excited about a major dig site recently uncovered in Moffat County. The hope is that it could mean good things for the area’s economic future. Back in 2015, the Colorado Northwestern Community College Craig Campus was officially named a federal fossil repository meaning they could collect and curate fossils. This opened the door for the college to offer Paleontology Field Experience courses and provide opportunities to students that are often only reserved for universities and large museums. CNCC has had great success with the program in the years since with perhaps the most exciting discovery unveiled just recently. While the exact location has not been disclosed, CNCC officials have shared that the new big dig site is located in Moffat County near the Utah border and that it could take up to 15 years to complete. What does this mean for Moffat County? Only time will tell. A Craig Daily Press article shares that what it could mean is a location to build up a new dinosaur attraction as a neighbor to the Quarry in Dinosaur National Monument and that could mean good things for Moffat County’s future.
