New Financial Crimes Intelligence Center Launched To Combat Financial Crime

Attorney General Derek Brown has announced the launch of the Utah Financial Crimes Intelligence Center (FCIC). “First brought to the Office by the Utah Fraud Prevention Coalition, the Utah Legislature established the FCIC in response to the rapid growth of financial crime across the state,” shares the announcement. In fact, since 2020, Utahns have lost nearly $450 million to scams, fraud, and other financial crimes. Reported losses reached $108.4 million in 2025 and Utahns have already reported nearly $60 million in losses so far this year. “Fraud is a multi-million-dollar problem and is becoming more sophisticated, putting Utah families, seniors and businesses at greater risk of losing their hard-earned money,” shared Senator Ron Winterton in response to the announcement. “Utah is taking action to stay ahead of these scams and give law enforcement better tools to find criminals, recover stolen funds and protect victims.” The new Financial Crimes Intelligence Center will have resources to trace stolen money, track down scammers and help hold criminals accountable while assisting victims and improving efforts to recover stolen funds.
