A natural gas expansion project in Daggett County has new details on what is in the works. Northwest Pipeline LLC has applied to the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission to build a new compressor station. “The proposed Wild Trail project will increase transportation capacity within the existing Northwest Pipeline system,” shares the project update. “Enhancing the transportation of natural gas produced in the Piceance Basin will support energy distribution across the Rockies and the western United States. The shift of several coal-fired power plants to natural gas is driving the demand for additional capacity on Williams’ system.” If approved by FERC, the project aims to add approximately 57,955 dekatherms per day of incremental pipeline transportation capacity to the Northwest Pipeline system and contract an additional 25,000 dekatherms per day of existing capacity for a total project capacity of 82,955 dekatherms a day by the fourth quarter of 2027. That amount of natural gas is equivalent to what is needed to supply approximately 392,000 homes with natural gas for hot water, heat and cooking. Northwest Pipeline LLC has requested a decision by May 2026 to maintain their proposed construction timeline.
