Neighboring Colorado Battling Own Round of Wildfires

Utah is not alone as fires threaten land and homes of many residents. Neighboring Colorado is also dealing with multiple wildfires. The Divide Fire, located 23 miles north of Craig, was mapped on Sunday at 19,947 acres. Moffat County Sheriff’s Office reports that hot, windy weather pushed the fire to over 13,000 acres on Friday and reached 40 percent containment on Saturday. Structures remain threatened and two structures have been lost since the fire started on June 28th. The Thornburg Fire, located west of Maybell, is holding at 1,636 acres and was reported on Sunday as 50 percent contained. Crews were also busy in northwestern Colorado after several new starts caused by lightning
on Saturday night
. The largest is the Fawn Fire, located southwest of Meeker, that was last reported at 188 acres. No structures were considered threatened and air tankers were dropping retardant on the fire
Sunday morning
. In Rio Blanco County, the Ridgetop Fire, located east of Highway 13, had burned 150 acres on private land.
