Native American students at Uintah High School enjoyed a special experience last week. Donated copies of “Firekeeper’s Daughter” from the author Angeline Boulley were given to the students through Book Drop by Operation Literacy. “Boulley, an enrolled member of the Sault Ste. Marie Tribe of Chippewa Indians, is a storyteller who writes about her Ojibwe community in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula,” shares the announcement. “Her donation is intended to give students their own copy of a book with Native representation and to encourage them to write their own stories. In addition to receiving the book, UHS students were able to watch a live-cast webinar and ask Boulley questions about her life in high school, her writing, and her path to becoming an author.” Operation Literacy is a non-profit dedicated to providing young writers with the tools they need to tell their own stories.
