Naples Police Warn Public Of Increase In Scams

Scammers continue to do what they do best, trying to trick literally anyone into giving them money that doesn’t belong to them, and the Naples Police is urging the public not to fall for their schemes. Naples PD shared several examples including a recent scam posing as the IRS. “We’re still seeing an increase in scams,” shares Naples PD. “These particular scammers seem to be targeting those who have lived in one home for a long time or have a landline phone. Please be wary of anyone who wants to send you a check to deposit or tells you you’ve won money for something. They will usually ask for more information or money to get you your ‘prize’.” Naples PD also warned of the increase in telephone scams locally earlier this month. The type varies with some claiming a large sum of money has been won or with the caller wanting to help with fraudulent charges on an account. DO NOT provide these scammers with any personal information. Hang up and contact whatever company the caller is claiming to be from. If something sounds too good to be true, it usually is.
