Funding acquired by Naples City a few years ago is now being put to great use as the City finishes up a trails project that connects Highway 40 to 2000 East just north of the Naples City Park. Naples City Manager Micheal Davis explains that the idea is that people can park and take off on an adventure. There is a new parking lot on each side and the trails are for non-motorized biking and walking use because the funding is through a trails grant that requires its use to allow biking and hiking. The construction phase is complete and paving is well underway. These are 10 foot trails so there is room as a multi-use trail. Davis also shares that as a bonus, there is a packed dirt nature trail that provides a shortcut between the paved trails in one spot. The entire project, which includes the land, parking lots on each end, paved trails, fencing, signage, and more, is roughly $2 million dollars, which the grants cover with the exception of a $150,000 contribution from Naples City. Davis says they are excited to share this new recreation opportunity with the community and the trail is expected to open in a few weeks.
