Impairment is suspected as a factor in a motorcycle crash that took place Saturday on SR-191 about 14 miles north of Vernal. According to the Utah Highway Patrol, a motorcycle with a single rider was traveling southbound
at about 4:54pm
near milepost 369 when the rider lost control and crashed. “Preliminary indications are that the driver was traveling too fast and may have impacted a bicycle rack on the rear of another vehicle,” shares the UHP press release. “The rider had a helmet strapped to the motorcycle, but he was not wearing a helmet and suffered significant head injuries. The other vehicle involved did not remain at the scene and troopers are attempting to identify the vehicle and driver. Witnesses stopped and rendered aid until troopers and EMS could arrive.” The rider was flown to a Salt Lake area hospital in extremely critical condition. The press release also states that “evidence gathered on scene suggests that alcohol may have also been a contributing factor in the crash. UHP would remind all motorcycle riders to always wear a helmet, ride the speed limit, and never ride while impaired.”
