The Utah Department of Health has reported the first findings of West Nile Virus in Utah counties this year and Uintah County is among them. According to
Health.Utah.Gov
, three mosquito pools tested positive for West Nile Virus in the last week; one each in Box Elder, Davis, and Uintah County. Thankfully there are no confirmed human cases and only 2 animal cases in the state so far. Utah Department of Health epidemiologist Dallin Peterson warns that since there is no human vaccine for West Nile Virus, it is important to take simple precautions to avoid mosquito bites. “The best way to reduce your risk for any illness carried by mosquitoes is to use an insect repellent with DEET when you’re outside,” shares Peterson. “Adults and children older than two months of age can safely use repellents that contain up to 30 percent DEET.” Mosquito surveillance will continue in Utah into the fall.
