A unique local event this week will celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 mission. Neil Armstrong and Edwin “Buzz” Aldrin were the first humans to land on the moon on July 20th, 1969. Perhaps most memorable was the moment Armstrong took his first step on the moon and stated, “That’s one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind.” The moment was a fulfillment of a goal set by President John F. Kennedy in 1961 to see man land on the moon, prompting the Apollo program. In honor of the achievement, Dinosaur National Monument is hosting a special Night Hike
this Wednesday, July 17th, from 8:45 to 10:15pm
. Participants will meet at the Quarry Visitor Center Stegosaurus statue. Remember to wear good shoes, bring water, and a flashlight. Call
