Moon Lake Electric CEO Yankton Johnson visited the Evans Family Media radio studios on Tuesday to discuss growth in the Uintah Basin and what the Association is doing to address it. Johnson shared that Moon Lake Electric has some capacity constraints on its system and they are working to address those as quickly and efficiently as possible. Moon Lake Electric is preparing to build a 47 mile line from the Bonanza Plant to their main office south of Roosevelt. The goal is to have construction underway in the coming months and completed in the latter part of 2024. Johnson expressed concern that the push to 100 percent renewables will potentially push the nation into blackouts and brownouts. Moon Lake Electric gets the majority of its power from Deseret Power. They are looking at sources, including microgrids to offset the risk. There are also solar units being added at the Bonanza Plant.
