As a member owned utility cooperative, Moon Lake Electric returns excess margins back to its members. The company directors announced this month a significant refund is on its way. “We are very happy to report that the Board of Directors has approved a $2 million dollar patronage refund this year, and our members will be seeing the credit on their monthly bill during the May billing cycles,” shares Moon Lake General Manager and CEO Grant Earl. “Our members are receiving patronage refunds at the same time customers of other power companies are seeing rate increases.” Moon Lake has retired over $36 million dollars to its members in refunds since 1977 and are able to credit accounts rather than issue checks in order to save on check handling and mailing costs. The refund is based on a percentage of the member’s previous years’ power usage.
