Roads within Dinosaur National Monument closed in March due to severe winter storm damage are reopening today. Monument Superintendent Mark Foust made the announcement Thursday that Island Park and Rainbow Park roads are reopening thanks to temporary repairs. The Uintah County Roads Department as well as the Monument road crew made the repairs in order to provide access to the Rainbow Park Campground and Boat Launch as well as McKee Springs Petroglyphs and the Ruple Ranch area. An engineer’s assessment in March revealed that flooding had eroded the road away. Monument staff and engineers from the Federal Highway Administration continue to look for longer term solutions to minimize the potential for future washouts. “We greatly appreciate the hours of work that staff from the Uintah County Roads Department provided to reopen the road in time for the busy season,” says Superintendent Foust. “They have been an incredible partner in this project. By reopening the road, we are able to provide access to boaters to enjoy the Split Mountain Canyon section of the Green River.” For more information, visit
