The Moffat County Sheriff’s Office is the latest agency urging all to be aware that scammers are after your hard earned money and has offered tips to prevent getting scammed. “The Moffat County Sheriff's Office is seeing a significant increase in reports of fraud and scams,” shares the announcement. “It's essential that we all remain vigilant and take steps to protect ourselves from these types of crimes…By staying informed and taking proactive measures, we can work together to prevent fraud and scams.” They shared several tips and things to remember. Scammers can fake almost anything on your screen. Don’t fall for it! If someone says your money isn’t safe and you need to move your money to make it safe, that’s a scam. If you receive a call demanding payment from law enforcement, that’s a scam. If you receive a text about an unpaid package, that’s a scam. If anyone insists you pay them with gift cards, cryptocurrency, a Bitcoin ATM, wire transfer, or cash, that’s a scam. And if they tell you to stay on the line and keep a secret? Scam. Hang up the phone, contact the agency yourself directly, and talk to someone you trust right away. Finally, stay alert and share scam and fraud prevention tips with those you love.
