A moment of fun has turned into a felony charge for a Vernal man arrested earlier this month. According to the Probable Cause Statement, on October 7th, an officer observed a motorcycle fail to come to a complete stop at a stop sign and noticed that the motorcycle did not have a functioning tail light. The officer initiated a traffic stop but rather than stop, the driver of the motorcycle chose to flee. When later contacted by law enforcement, 21-year-old Payton Spangler admitted that he was driving the motorcycle in the incident. When asked why he fled, he replied that he panicked and in further explanation stated, “It’s fun” and that it was an “adrenaline rush.” Spangler is charged with 3rd Degree Felony Failure to Stop at the Command of Police.
