A tragic loss of life has been reported in the search area for missing person DeEtte Spencer. The Carbon County Sheriff’s Office announced on Monday that 48-year-old Joshua Dovayak lost his life after self-deploying to search independently for 70-year-old woman DeEtte Spencer who has been missing since January. The Sheriff’s Office emphasized that this individual was acting on his own and was not part of an official or organized search operation. They also extended their condolences to those impacted by this devastating loss. “We want to strongly remind the public that the search zone for DeEtte Spencer encompasses extremely remote and rugged terrain,” explains the Sheriff’s Office. “Weather conditions in this region are currently harsh and unpredictable, with temperatures exceeding 100°F and a constant risk of sudden monsoonal heavy rainfall and flash flooding. For the safety of the community and search personnel, the Sheriff’s Office urgently asks members of the public NOT to self-deploy or enter the search area on their own.” Professional search and rescue teams have exhausted all viable avenues, resources, and leads in the search area at this time.
