The peace was certainly disturbed for hotel guests over the weekend in Uintah County when a man attempted to force his way into a room around 4am on March 29th. According to the Affidavit of Probable Cause, police were called on complaints that not only had 24-year-old Alex Casarez Lopez tried to force his way into the hotel room but had also attacked the room’s occupant later when he exited the hotel. When officers arrived, the victim had visible injuries on his face and both arms. He told officers that Alex Lopez had come to his hotel room at 4am and knocked on the door while covering the peephole. The victim opened the door and Lopez began pushing his way in until he was pushed back and the door was slammed shut. Hotel video footage showed that Lopez was then able to get a key to the room without showing ID and used it to unlock the door but was unable to get inside because the security latch was engaged. Lopez proceeded to pound on the door and yell for them to open the door. Police were called but Lopez fled before they arrived. Later when the victim was leaving the hotel, Lopez crossed the parking lot and began punching him and the pair fought. Lopez eventually ran to a truck and drove away. Multiple witnesses were cited in the Probable Cause statement, confirming the report. Lopez was contacted and he came to the Vernal Police Department where he was taken into custody. He’s charged with 2nd Degree Felony Burglary of a Dwelling, Assault, and Disorderly Conduct. It was ordered he be held without bail.
