An officer was at the right place at the right time on Saturday when he initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle with an unsafe driver. According to the Affidavit of Probable Cause, the officer initiated the stop in Naples and the vehicle pulled into a gas station parking lot. The officer “detected the strong odor of an alcoholic beverage emitting from the vehicle” and “the driver’s speech was slurred”. The driver admitted to drinking beer that evening. Field Sobriety Testing was performed and the officer concluded the driver was unsafe to operate a vehicle. 32-year-old Colden Brett Nielsen was arrested for DUI and transported to the Uintah County Jail. A criminal history check confirmed that Nielsen had a prior DUI conviction in the last 10 years.
