A man and his dog had to jump into Flaming Gorge Reservoir when the boat they were on caught fire on August 9th around 3pm. According to the Utah DNR Division of Law Enforcement, the boat was en route to a nearby marina when it caught fire. “The occupant was unable to extinguish the fire, grabbed life jackets and the dog, and jumped overboard,” shares the DNR press release. “A passerby picked up the occupant, who was then transported to a nearby marina. There were no injuries. The vessel sank after sustaining damage.” The incident remains under investigation. The press release also offered thanks to the Daggett County Sheriff’s Office and the passerby that assisted the man and his dog. As a reminder to boaters, the Utah Department of Natural Resources Law Enforcement Division and Utah Division of Outdoor Recreation want you to follow these safety tips while boating: Turn on your blowers for a minimum of 4 minutes before initial startup and directly after fueling, boat maintenance should be performed by an authorized marine service center, and have a United States Coast Guard marine-approved fire extinguisher mounted away from the engine compartment.
