Main Threat of ‘Boone Draw Fire’ Subsides

The main threat of the Boone Draw Fire has subsided. According to the Northwest Colorado Fire Management Unit, BLM and county officials decided to reduce the size of the area closure last week to only include the area most immediately impacted by the fire, heavy equipment traffic, and fire management activities. The Boone Draw Fire started on BLM land on September 13th. Thankfully, no structures or other infrastructure was threatened. The fire is located 50 miles west of Craig and the hot, dry, and windy weather made for increased danger. Mapping adjustments resulted in a decrease of overall acreage to 8,610 acres last week.
