People often get lost in the busyness of life and lay the responsibility of community, citizenship and city pride at the feet of those elected and appointed officials of the area. And while it is true that such is their duty, the problems, challenges and struggles of a community are equally burdened upon everyone. It is always awe inspiring to watch residents find ideas of community enrichment and then strive to implement them. Several examples in the Vernal community include the story of Bobby Oostveen and his child seeing the need for benches to be placed at BTA bus stops and then setting about to get 17 dinosaur benches placed and 3 large canopy shades installed. Becca Summers has lead the initiative that created the dinosaur murals in downtown Vernal, giving our community life and personality. Dr. Laura Foley is improving not only the local school experience for children but the lives of adults as she leads the Boomer Brigade that prepares community members to serve in the schools. These are just a few individuals looking to create a change for the better in our community. Negativity might want to tell us otherwise, but we are in a community that wants to have something better. Do not forget to look for our local movers of positivity.
