Basin residents and organizations are eligible to apply for grantsthrough the Utah Department of Agriculture and Food. $275, 000 dollars is available for projects that are designed to increase production and availability of fruits, vegetables, and other crops locally. Individual producers, producer groups, organizations, associations, academia and any other specialty crop stakeholders are eligible to apply. Individual and group growing operations are popular throughout the Basin with communities throughout northeastern Utah hosting successful farmer’s markets and other community oriented causes. Specialty Crops are defined as fruits, vegetables, dried fruits, horticulture and nursery crops. The program is designed to enhance the competitiveness of specialty crop producers by providing funds to help with marketing, promotion, education, research, trade, and increasing child and adult nutrition knowledge as well as consumption of specialty crops.
