One Vernal woman is proving that age doesn’t have to hold you back from new hobbies and experiences though she doesn’t understand what all the fuss is about. Madge Fillingim took up bowling in her 70’s and has since crushed her goal of bowling 100 in a game. Madge is now 98-years-old and bowled a cool 165 last Thursday. The week before that was a 160. “Her average has gone up to 107,” shares fellow Golden Oldies league member Keni Pearson. “Madge is amazing and she has such a spirit that makes us want to get up and go. She’s very inspirational to us.” The Golden Oldies league has up to 40 locals 55-years-and-older bowling each week, with many in their 80’s and 90’s. Like many of her fellow league members, Madge looks forward to bowling every week because of the friendships she has made. She also says it is great exercise for her. While Madge may not understand why her accomplishment is worth highlighting, no explanation is required for the rest of us. Madge, thank you for your inspiring example and proving that it’s never too late to take up a hobby and defy the odds!
